As a Process Development Scientist, you will report to the Process Engineer in the Research and Development team for Pacific Foods, working collaboratively with Product Development Scientists, Manufacturing Plant Personnel, and other Process Engineers within the company.
The successful individual in this position demonstrates the ability to specify and implement processes/procedures that facilitate technology transfers, enhance product quality, reduce cost, and increase plant efficiency.
Essential responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Support moderately complex commercialization and engineering projects and/or lead basic projects with some supervision.
Support the formula scale-up for selected projects through pilot and production scale with R&D and cross-function support.
Provide input on process expertise & knowledge into early product development process.
Build cohesive relationship as liaison between Product Development, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain and operations during the commercialization process.
Provide process engineering knowledge to implement efficient and effective technology transfer between Technical Solutions Hub, R&D, and the plants.
Complete a situation assessment and/or options analysis, document manufacturing procedures, and write trial plans and reports.
Conduct basic feasibility studies and implement new/improved process/packages.
Analyze and trend scale-up data to ensure that manufacturing systems will reliably deliver high quality product as designed within specification and cost.
Document test results & conclusions, process parameters, critical control points and specifications.
Review engineering drawings, automated process sequence descriptions and capital installation from process perspective.
Support the development of innovative processes/technologies and commercialization of new business initiatives.
Job Complexity & Scope:
Ability to work closely with Product Development and plant personnel to develop, test, and implement processes to commercialize Pacific Foods products (Soup & Meals, Broth, Plant Based Beverages).
Conduct process scale up from pilot plant to manufacturing. With assistance, you will design and develop experimental test plans for feasibility, pilot plant & plant trial runs, and commissioning, validation, and audits of manufacturing units of operation.
Support one or more projects of basic or moderate complexity and technical risk with limited assistance.
Participate in troubleshooting and identifying the root cause of production problems and implement effective solutions.
Effectively communicate at multiple levels within the organization and works well on cross-functional teams.
We are looking for the following abilities and skills:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Food Engineering. with 1+ years in the food industry.
Abilities and Skills:
Exposure to technical aspects on processes and production equipment.
Experience with formulating and executing basic experimental designs.
Ability to understand food processing and scale-up techniques.

Working Conditions :
Pacific Foods offices, Research Kitchen, Pilot Plant, and Manufacturing Plants (Campbell Soup Company (CSC), co-manufacturers and vendors).
Travel (up to 30%) is associated with feasibility and start up at Pacific and Campbell Soup manufacturing plants, equipment and trials at vendor and co-manufacturing.
A significant portion of the job is in the thermal production environment; thus, the work exposes the employee to heat and hot food products, coolers, and freezers requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
Ability to walk or stand up to three-quarters of the workday.
Physical ability to handle weights of approximately thirty pounds.
Handle allergens including diary, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs and other food ingredient chemicals and allergens while wearing appropriate PPE.
Willingness and ability to taste and evaluate a wide range of food products and ingredients.
