PeaceHealth Manager - Clinical Documentation Integrity in Springfield, Oregon

PeaceHealth is seeking a Manager - Clinical Documentation Integrity for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

JOB SUMMARY

Manages the coordination of the activities of a business unit or department with responsibility for results including costs, methods, and staffing. Responsible for operational performance, quality, service environment and regulatory compliance, also may include the CDI reconciliation process. Receives assignment in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Responsible for the organization, operation, leadership, staff supervision, and management of clinical documentation specialists and reconcilers, as guided by the CDI Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manages the daily operations of the CDI program and/or reconciliation process. Serves in an advisory capacity regarding coding and CDI coordination of work effort to resolve outstanding issues and/or CDI needs for the region

  2. Actively participates and leads team meetings and education of staff as needed. Communicates with HIM Coding Manager to resolve discrepancies, and involves CDI Director as needed. Co-leader of Task Force with Coding Management.

  3. Leads the staff in their performance of accurate and timely record reviews, admission/continued stay reviews using Compliant Documentation Program Management® guidelines. Recognizes opportunities and educates staff around documentation improvement and coding guidelines.

  4. Responsible for knowledge of regulatory and compliance needs and works with CDIS’s to promote high levels of adherence. Assists with management of CDMPTrak®, as needed. Works extensively with the GUIDE program.

  5. Facilitates problem solving and decisions regarding operational issues with providers, coding, CDI staff and other disciplines, and assist in caregiver management issues as needed.

  6. Identifies and participates in departmental and regional projects. Participates in system projects as requested by CDI Director.

  7. May collaborate with physicians/ providers and trains and educates providers as needed. Orients new hire physicians and other care givers.

  8. Tracks weekly productivity of staff and prepares monthly benchmark data reports for Cross Regional CDI Leadership Team meetings. Holds team accountable for quality and production.

  9. Prepares and performs staff evaluations and responsible for accountability of CDI staff performance, as measured by established CDI Evaluation Matrix.

  10. Coordinates facility direction and scheduling for any necessary training for CDI staff in collaboration with CDI Director.

  11. Monitors CDS activities and schedules for compliance with all CDI processes and policies.

  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or a combination of education and professional experience that provides the incumbent with the requisite knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the job.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist in hospital program is required.

  • Acute care nursing experience (direct patient care) in hospital setting, preferably in a medical or surgical care unit required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, regulatory requirements, financial and review requirements, and computer health applications required.

  • Knowledge and experience in compliance/HIPAA processes, regulations and internal controls.

  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

  • Experience with JA Thomas software preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current license/registration/certification as required by State to practice.

  • CCDS certification required within 6 months

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Good critical thinking skills, able to access, evaluate, and teach. Flexible with a working knowledge of all areas of adult medicine.

  • Knowledge of pathophysiology and disease process.

  • Knowledge of Medicare Part A and how it impacts DRG assignments.

  • Knowledge of Value Based Purchasing and other quality matrix affecting the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program

SHMC PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires moderate physical exertion from 34 to 65% of the time.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.

  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.

  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).

  • Ability to stand on feet for the duration of any scheduled shift.
