The supervisor/instructor supports academically talented students enrolled in Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) online Critical Reading and Grammar courses.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
Provide instruction to 15-30 students across 2-3 online classes per session using curriculum defined by CTY. Lectures are not required.
Monitor student progress and assist students in accomplishing established learning objectives.
Interact independently with students and their parents using distance education technologies, primarily Moodle, video conferencing software, Skype, and e-mail.
Provide timely written feedback to students and their parents on coursework and progress.
Manage student behavior and discipline in the online classroom.
Report concerns with students, courseware, or systems to supervisor.
Submit hours worked via established system according to schedule provided by CTY.
Work with school-paid students and designated school administrators to ensure student success and school satisfaction with CTY Online Programs courses.
Maintain, revise, and enhance existing critical reading and grammar course curriculum.
Assist in the hiring, training, coaching, and supervising of critical reading and grammar instructors, including the updating of instructor guides and course introductory videos, and supporting instructors in their creation of welcome videos.
Supervise casual instructors for up to 10 courses per session, including training and advising instructors, monitoring and tracking instructor's work, mediating parent/instructor disputes, assisting instructors with technological problems, reminding instructors of policies and deadlines, and editing student evaluations written by direct reports before submitting to registration office.
Keep up-to-date on best practices for teaching online courses, including software and web tools available for online instruction and content for courses supervised.
Review, update, and test courses each session in test-server environment.
Recommend changes and updates to content to Program Managers and help with implementation and rollout of any changes made.

Minimum required education and related work experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Education, English, Writing, or related field; Master's degree in relevant field is strongly preferred.
Two years teaching or tutoring experience in English, language arts, critical reading, writing, grammar, or related field.
Additional (graduate) education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Required Special Skills and Knowledge:
Excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with online technology, web tools, and resources.
Experience working with gifted students, and students with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Extensive communication and organizational proficiencies

Internal and external contacts required as part of the job:
Collaborative relationships with the Senior Program Manager of Mathematics, supervisors, and Online Programs administrators and staff.
Frequent contact with students, schools, and parents via telephone, email, and web-based virtual meeting room software.

Physical requirements for the job:
Ability to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery
The incumbent will be required to communicate regularly via telephone and face to face with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings
Position also requires a degree of mobility common to working in an office environment; bending, kneeling or standing during events and presentations may be required.
- Supervises 5 to 25 causal on line instructors.
