Your Role With Us:
As the Coder III you will help support the Health Information Management (H.I.M.) department through assigning codes to inpatient, outpatient, Emergency Department and all other records as me be determined by utilizing ICD-10-AM/PCS and CPT-4 coding classifications.
Assigns codes to inpatient medical records (IP) utilizing ICD-10-CM coding systems while maintaining a productivity rate of 18-22 records per day and a 95% or greater accuracy rate and ability to assist in other areas of coding on an as needed basis. Ability to cross-train and assist in OP Obs/Surg, ED or ancillary as needed.
Enters diagnoses, procedures and revenue codes in EPIC; adds Account Notes and updates ADT information in EPIC; manages assigned work queues in EPIC.
Abstracts information from the medical record and enters data into the EPIC system.
Graduation from an AHIMA accredited college or trade school.
Previous coding experience within a multi-specialty hospital
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant inpatient and/or outpatient CPT/ICD-10 (procedural and diagnoses) coding experience.
Score of 95% or better on Salem Health’s Coder III test required.
Previous encoder experience preferred.
Internal candidates must maintain 95% or higher accuracy and production in current coding specialty to be considered.
Internal candidates must have proof of completion of the following courses: Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, ICD-10 diagnosis coding, ICD-10 procedural coding. AHIMA’s online, Chemeketa and Portland Community Colleges’ courses are all acceptable means of fulfilling these requirements.
Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and disease processes is required.
Previous Encoder experience preferred
Good verbal and written communication skills to interpret medical record documentation.
Good computer skills required.
Must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
