Western US Sales Team Lead - Seminis Vegetable Seeds


As the Western Sales Team lead, you will be responsible for leading the Seminis Vegetable Seeds commercial sales organization and all Seminis related business activities in the western United States. As a people manager, you will be successful in the role by leading and coaching the sales team to secure established financial sales and profit goals. You will also lead the execution of an 18 month operational plan that activates the marketing plans, including market share, sales volume, and expense budgets. This region covers the western half of the United States. While we will consider residence based applicants from the entire region, ideal candidates will reside in CA, TX, AZ or the Pacific Northwest due to proximity of the bulk of the sales reps and business.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Field Sales Team Lead, are to:

  • Lead and direct sales representatives to meet US West open field(OPF) seed sales, consumption, inventory and profit goals by providing clear direction, effective coaching, prioritization of resources and targeted development;

  • Develop a comprehensive US West OPF 18-month business plan in alignment with marketing strategy and expense budgets;

  • Be accountable for the implementation of sales and marketing campaigns to maximize sales impact (return-on-investment) of expenses, discount, rebate and program payments;

  • Set individual targets and KPIs, track performance and lead to best in class results;

  • Build a deep understanding of the customers’ business, serve as a key business consultant to senior management at the customers’ headquarters and identify opportunities to mutually grow our businesses;

  • Develop 3-year business plans with each strategic dealer account in the U.S. West establish short and mid-term targets with them;

  • Assure that accurate monthly business forecasts are provided to aid in production planning, ensuring product availability;

  • Establish solid relationships with key open field vegetable growers in the Western USA to stimulate demand at the grower level and direct Market Development activities;

  • Proactively identify business opportunities and act upon them in close collaboration with marketing, market development and product supply in order to exceed customer experience and deliver volume, price and share commitments;

  • Manage complaints per Veg Seeds policy and process through effective problem solving, execution, administration and resource management;

  • Continuously demonstrate the values of the Bayer and Seminis brands to the team, dealer customers and growers.

  • Position requires driving for the company that may fall under DOT/FMCSA jurisdiction and may require a CDL. This may entail the hauling of trailers, product, supplies or equipment in a safe manner.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field;

  • At least 12 years of experience and strong track record in sales or marketing;

  • Experience supervising sales organizations or proven people/peer leadership skills;

  • Possess a DOT Driver medical card or the ability to obtain one through successfully completing and passing a DOT physical. In addition, candidate must be able to meet all applicable DOT/FMCSA criteria. Drivers with previous DOT driving experience may be required to undergo FMCSA safety checks and applicable review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or MBA;

  • Vegetable seed knowledge or experience in general agronomics, pest management and plant physiology.
