Sinclair Broadcast Group Weekend AM Weather Anchor/MMJ in Portland, Oregon

KATU/KUNP is looking for an Weekend Weather Anchor/Multi-Media Journalist. Your responsibilities as an MMJ will include reporting, shooting and editing news stories, enterprising hard news story ideas, developing contacts, as well as other responsibilities as assigned. You will be expected to produce daily content on a variety of platforms including the internet, social networking sites and mobile phones, in addition to television. You must also be profiecient to report a weather story in the field.

In addition, on weekends, you are responsible for producing a compelling, accurate weather forecast and anchor the weather segements, as well as some news segements for our two hour morning show on Saturday and Sunday. We are not training for teh weather position. You must know how to do it. You may also be asked to fill in for other weather anchors on different shifts. The best candidate for this position is a reporter with a year or two of weather forecasting under his or her belt. A meteorology degree will enhance your application, but is not required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Sharp news judgment
  • The ability to tell an NPPA style story
  • The ability to create accurate weather forecasts
  • Excellent technical skills
  • The ability to work well independently
  • Must have and maintain a valid license and a good driving record

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years reporting experience is required
  • 2 years of weather producing/anchoring is preferred.
  • Experience with live shots is required
  • Experience with Live-U is a plus
  • Experience using weather equipment to produce weather segements is required
  • Experience with the Baron Weather System will enhance your application, but is not required. WSI/Weather Central is acceptable.
