Oregon Health & Science University RN, Pediatric Acute Care Medical, PT, Nights in Portland, Oregon

Pediatric Acute Care Medical (PACM) provides Acute Care level care for patients 0-21 years of age, across a large spectrum of services to include; medicine, pulmonology, adolescents, family medicine, and more. Our team approach is family centered and includes daily multidisciplinary rounding, as well as, physician team rounds at the bedside with the family and the nurse. We also partner in care with child life, respiratory therapy, social work, school teachers, pharmacists, and therapy services. Our facility provides private rooms for patients/families, playrooms, family lounge, classroom and an outside courtyard.

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role™]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. • External applicants: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)

• Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred

• Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English

• Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools

• Current unencumbered Oregon RN license

• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or the Military Training Network

• Current PALS certifications

• Self-reflective, self-directed learner who achieves progressive growth

• Identify gaps in knowledge and initiate seeking resources to identify and manage risks, practicing safely with a wide variety of patient populations

• Able to advance plan of care when there is a lack of continuity of patient assignments

• Excellent time management

• Integrate into a diversity of team cultures, including:

o Speaking up about questionable assignments, identifying alternatives

o Inquiring about performance improvement changes

o Actively participating in huddles

o Helping secure break coverage for self and others o Seeking resources to support completion of work when going to float to another unit within shift

• Constant exposure to usual hospital environmental conditions including possible exposure to blood and body fluids for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk

• Float to a variety of assigned unites; sufficient time management, flexibility, and prioritization skills to float up to every 4 hours if necessary

• May be required to provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations off-unit to meet patient specific needs

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

• Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred

• 3 years pediatric acute care experience

• CPN certification or other applicable pediatric specialty certification


• New Grads 6-8 weeks

• Average of 4-5 weeks for basic pediatric care areas (tailored to individual needs). Further orientation for individually selected additional units: Average 12 shifts for PICU; 2-3 shifts for pediatric ED; 3-4 shifts for pediatric PACU. No new orientations for Mother-Baby Unit are planned.
