Oregon Health & Science University Radiation Therapy Manager in Portland, Oregon

The primary responsibility of the Radiation Therapist Manager is to coordinate day-to-day activities of the radiation therapists to ensure that clinical schedules are met through effective and efficient clinical workflows and work environment. Is required to demonstrate technical and supervisory leadership and the ability to make decisions and solve problems as they arise. Performs radiation therapy duties and procedures as staffing and workload dictates. Implements continuous review of clinical practice standards as pertains to external/internal beam treatment delivery in order to promote ongoing improvement in quality, productivity and efficiency within the department. Enforces established departmental/hospital/institutional policies and procedures in order to provide safe, high quality and efficient patient care. Serves as a liaison between the radiation therapy staff and the patient, the physicians, the general public and the medical community to coordinate quality patient care. Promotes harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among the health care team, including therapists, physicists, dosimetrists, administration and the medical staff. Supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the department and the organization.

Sets, adjust, manipulates and controls complex high energy equipment to apply therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation for treatment. Positions patients for therapeutic treatment with a high regard for safety and care of the patients.

Exercises responsible independent judgment in recognizing and reporting significant side effects induced by radiation and maintains treatment records for accurate dose administration and observation of treatment response.

*0.4 cFTE shall count toward RTT cFTE calculation.

  • Manages the day-to-day clinical schedule of all therapists for machine treatment, ensure appropriate coverage during vacation, sick time, etc.

  • Coordinates and leads various policies and personnel actions including, hiring, orientation and training, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, creation and revision of position descriptions, terminations, guidance and counselling, and professional development and maintenance of competency.

  • Coordinates timely requisition, receipt, care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Anticipates and facilitates needs for repair, renovations, replacement, new purchases or modifications of work environment and equipment for the effective provision of services. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of equipment malfunctions, treatment errors, equipment damage, and radiation safety violations.

  • Serves as the catalyst for radiation therapists in the acquisition, management, implementation and optimization of (new/novel) technology. Maintains clinical competency of the radiation therapist staff through trainings, in-services, and continuing education programs.

  • Oversees the training of Radiation Therapy Students and coordinates the student clinical training program.

  • Miscellaneous duties including, but not limited to; involvement in operation efficiency and quality of care improvement projects, recommending changes and/or action; cataloguing, review and periodic update of RTT-specific cQI projects; census tracking; etc.

Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Therapy or Radiologic Science.

Graduate of CAHEA approved Radiation Training Program.

Minimum of 8 years of clinical experience.

At least three years of management/supervisory experience in an outpatient oncology setting.

Demonstrated management and leadership experience.

Proven critical analytical skills, demonstrated evidence of superior written, verbal and technology skills; excellent collaborative and customer service oriented skills; ability to make sound decisions and creatively and promptly problem solve.

Demonstrated ability to affect change within groups.

Excellent data and technology skills.

Strong communication skills.

Ability to interact in a positive, productive manner with providers, administrators and leadership (demonstrating sensitivity, tact, and professionalism).

Ability to deal effectively with difficult situations.

Ability to analyze information and construct an action plan to resolve issues.

Ability to collaborate effectively and work both independently and in a team environment.

Effective organizational abilities, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to operate and communicate effectively while meeting multiple deadlines and completing projects simultaneously.

Advanced proficiency with electronic systems and software. 

CQI experience, conflict resolution skills, ability to work with patients with acute, chronic, and complex disease processes.

Possesses a strong knowledge of immobilization, simulation, and all aspects of treatment delivery.

Possesses high levels of motivation and work ethic; team oriented, organized and detail oriented, exhibits good follow-through on tasks, above average communication skills and ability to relate effectively to the public and health care professionals.

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Master’s degree in Health Services Administration or Healthcare Administration

10+ years of experience as a Radiation Therapist

Epic (HIS) and Mosaiq (OIS) Experience.

Coding experience.
