Teeny Foods Quality Assurance Manager in Portland, Oregon

This position provides QA leadership for a BRC certified commercial bakery by setting quality strategy and improving quality standards, goals and objectives. This position executes responsibilities to ensure full compliance with company policies and procedures, customer requirements, FSMA compliance, and regulatory standards. This position focuses on quality assurance, quality systems, food safety systems, sanitation, and specifications. The QA Manager monitors and advises on how the quality system performs, gathers data, and reports company performance against set indicators. The QA Manager advises on changes in QA and QC procedures and systems, implements new systems where necessary and provides training, tools and techniques to achieve quality. The QA Manager also continuously challenges and minimizes quality controls by setting up systems to assure 100% quality bakery products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain BRC certification. Ensures standards are being met or exceeded.

  • Leads the facility in the adoption and disciplined use of a clearly defined, well-documented, and systematic commercialization process for implementing change into plant processes for new products launches and product process redesigns;

  • Responsible for directing and supervising the Sanitation and QA Supervisors, Sanitation Leads, Quality Control and Sanitation Technicians;

  • Sets QA compliance objectives and insures targets are achieved;

  • Responsible for daily QA plant operations;

  • Provides support defining plant process capabilities, sampling plans, and protocols to transition product from R&D pilot to commercial manufacturing;

  • Supports translation of product specifications to appropriate manufacturing documentation;

  • Leads and facilitates company consumer and customer complaint resolution and reduction;

  • Provide the means for incorporating the necessary tools, equipment, and methods into the new and existing processes aimed at continuous improvement;

  • Lead activities that empower, engage, and involve team members with the information and tools necessary for continuous improvement in facility manufacturing processes;

  • Support operations in achieving continuous improvement targets and goals at plant;

  • Leads change in existing products in response to complaints, customer requests, or cost saving activities;

  • Support efforts to ensure consumer acceptable product is being produced at plant.

  • Ensure seamless exchange of technical and product information between and among all functional areas of the plant;

  • Responsible for the scheduling and completion of internal audits;

  • Chairman of the Food Safety and Safety Committee;

  • Food Defense and HACCP Coordinator;

  • Responsible for documentation involving QA, sanitation, production, and maintenance records;

  • Leads monthly departmental head meeting and quarterly senior management;

  • Responsible to maintain the 1200z DMR stormwater permit.

To perform this job successfully individuals must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience Required

* BS in Food Science or science related field * PCQI certified * FDQI certified * Minimum of 3 years of experience in Quality Assurance * Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience

Additional Education and/or Experience Required

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal);

  • Experience using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals;

  • Experience in setting up food safety and quality assurance systems requiring advanced PC skills, and personal computer skills to include spreadsheet software and word processing software (MS Word and Excel);

  • Strong knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning operations, including HACCP, FDA, OSHA, and GMP requirements for food processing facilities;

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations;

  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedures;

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public;

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference;

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;

  • Familiarity with mechanical functions of all machines/equipment;

  • Proven competency in supervisory activities which require conflict management, developing subordinates, directing subordinates, managing and measuring performance, motivating, building team spirit and morale, and understanding diverse viewpoints;

  • Ability to create operating procedures and train employees on GMP’s and new QA procedures;

  • Experience as company representative responsible for overseeing internal and external audits;

  • Familiarity with collecting and evaluating samples for moisture analysis as well as sensory evaluation;

  • Knowledge and experience with both BRC standards and Global Food Service Initiatives (GFSI).

Physical Demands

While performing the essential functions and duties of this job the QA Manager is regularly required to use vision, hearing, and taste sensory abilities. The position requires standing for prolonged periods of time, walking throughout plant and climbing stairs frequently. Must be able to lift 15 pounds on an occasional basis. The QA Manager position also requires use of hands to finger or feel bakery products to ensure QA and QC compliance.


Medical, dental, vision and prescription benefits will be offered after 90 days of employment. Paid Time Off (PTO) will be front-loaded on 91st day of employment. Paid holidays, 401K (with up to 4% matching contributions) and profit sharing will be available following one year of full-time employment. Education and tuition reimbursement is available to employees also.

Pay Rate: $45.00 Per Hour
