Oregon Health & Science University Postdoctoral Researcher in Portland, Oregon
As a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy of Oregon Health & Science University in the area of biology of gametes and preimplantation embryos this researcher will study meiosis 1 and mechanisms of haploidy in mammalian gametes and embryos using various embryological, molecular, immunocytochemical and cell culture techniques. This research is critical for developing functional gametes for treatment of infertility and defining safety and efficacy strategies of novel cell therapies for in vitro fertilization.
The Postdoctoral researcher will be a project leader at the Center for Embryonic Cell & Gene Therapy (CECGT, http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/research/centers-institutes/embryonic-cell-gene-therapy-center/). This research center reports to the Chief Research Officer and is a critical scientific center at OHSU; this position is responsible for communications with high level internal and external personnel and must operate with great accuracy and efficiency.
This candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments, maintaining laboratory records; gathering, organizing and summarizing data; writing and publishing manuscripts; presenting results at seminars and conferences, writing experimental protocols; preparing various reports; contributing to grant applications and progress reports; training new personnel and performing a variety of duties which require flexibility, judgment, and unique experience in the field of stem cell and developmental biology.
Ph.D. degree with major courses in molecular biology, cell biology, and embryology.
Strong background in mammalian gamete, preimplantation embryo and pluripotent stem cell biology.
Excellent communication skills and first-author publications on related topics in peer-reviewed journals are required.
Must think strategically and work accordingly, producing effective results and working efficiently within the time constraints of the position.
Able to analyze, integrate and interpret data critically.
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.
Ability to work independently and in small group settings.
Ability to interact in a positive and productive manner and to work efficiently and skillfully with a variety of diverse staff.
Ability to prioritize work demands and coordinate research protocols with other staff.
Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily complete and perform job duties.
Degree in Developmental/Stem cell Biology.
Hands-on experience in gamete and embryo micromanipulations, stem cell culture, next-gen sequencing is highly desirable.
Normal work schedule is routinely Monday through Friday from approximately 9 to 5pm; however, early morning, evening, and weekend work is required by scope of the position. Work is performed in both the laboratory setting with potential risk of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and dry ice and in areas where there is potential risk of exposure to zoonotic agents through injury, by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids.
