Oregon Health & Science University Postdoctoral Researcher in Portland, Oregon
A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidate to contribute to our discovery program, and to receive training in renal and ion transport physiology. The successful candidate will primarily perform studies in knockout mice to dissect mechanisms underlying electrolyte homeostasis and blood pressure, but our group employs a wide variety of techniques including Western blotting, immunofluorescence and cell culture approaches. Responsibilities include:
Participation in active research studies, including maintenance and characterization of the renal physiology (renal injury, blood pressure and metabolic pathways) in knockout mice and disease models
Microsurgical procedures and post-operative care of animals will be performed along with analysis of protein expression and histological analysis. Cell culture methods and biochemical approaches may also be used.
Perform tissue clearing and intracellular ion concentration measurements
Perform experimental design and data interpretation
Preparation of manuscripts for publication, abstracts for presentation
Full participation in Division and lab research activities
Doctorate degree in Medicine, Physiology, or Pharmacology
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to compose manuscripts
Ability to present research findings at scientific conferences
Candidates with a doctoral degree that includes training in physiology and/or pharmacology, with small animal surgery experience, are especially encouraged to apply.
4 or more years of prior basic science laboratory experience and prior experience working in renal pathophysiology
2 or more published papers in peer-reviewed journals
