Providence Education and Program Coordinator in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Education and Program Coordinator - Wee Care Program (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR

We are seeking a Education and Program Coordinator - Wee Care Program that will coordinate the early childhood competency based training. Responsible for implementation of center-wide education plan including orientation of new employees, students and volunteers.

The Education and Program Coordinator (EPC) works in direct partnership with the Managing Director. The EPC provides leadership and works as a team member to provide a safe and secure environment for children as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The EPC provides activities to enhance a child's social, emotional, physical and intellectual development following Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP). Responsibilities include general program management, staffing, staff development, and interface with children, parents and visitors.

Wee Care is both Providence's on-site employer sponsored early learning facility and a community service, primarily serving Providence Health & Services (PHS) employee families as well as additional families from the greater Portland area. The center operates Monday through Friday, year-round, serving infants through pre-kindergarten.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • As directed or in the absence of the director, responsible for overseeing the center operations

  • Supervise curriculum planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities in social, emotional, physical and intellectual areas in all classrooms

  • Observe classrooms (all shifts) on a daily basis

  • Provide written and verbal feedback to staff with appropriate recommendations for improvement

  • Follow-up to ensure corrective actions are implemented

  • Develop and coordinate overall training and curriculum plan

  • Conduct staff meetings as needed, reviews teacher’s lesson plans, and maintains staff education files/Healthstream

  • Serve as a resource for Center teachers, parents and management team

  • Review, update and procure education materials

  • Successfully work with individuals and groups cooperatively to achieve goals and objectives of the program

  • Communicate and document care of the children and communicate with parents both written and verbally

  • Conference with parents as needed or requested

  • Complete department orientation for staff and volunteers. Is familiar with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children at the Center

  • Work in the classroom as teacher when needed

  • Order and organize supplies according to stock level, classroom need, and budget allocations

  • Develop and maintain a new student recruitment plan that maintains a full enrollment

  • Conduct tours with potential new families and participates in other public relations activities

  • Oversee enrollment of new children

  • Lead and facilitate the participation of parents as advisors to and participants in the program, ensuring the integration of parent activities in support of the program

  • Participate as an active member of Providence Child Center's Core Leader's Forum and Safety Committee


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college in Early Childhood Education or related field, and four (4) years of direct child care/teaching experience with groups of children six weeks to five years -OR- equivalent education/experience

  • Two (2) years of working in a licensed child care center or closely related experience

  • Must pass appropriate background checks as needed by Providence

  • In compliance with the Oregon Office of Child Care, enrollment in the Central Background Registry is needed for this position, based on assigned duties

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or related field (as defined by the Oregon Registry/Oregon Center for Career Development in Childhood Care and Education)

  • Leadership experience in a licensed early childhood setting with proven ability to organize and direct early childhood educational activities

  • Experience with Spark (Oregon's Quality Rating and Improvement System) and the Oregon Registry as well as the National Association for the Education of Young Children standards of accreditation
