Zapproved Director of Engineering in Portland, Oregon

Zapproved is hiring a results-driven Director of Engineering to oversee a team that will be driving major transformations in our software suite. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background, good business acumen, and demonstrated experience managing diverse teams. You should also be comfortable working with a wide variety of stakeholders - from engineering to product to executives, and everything in between. What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide thought leadership and technical vision for the development of cloud-based services and products

  • Work with outside vendors on teams that are integrated into your development teams

  • Create milestones and deliverables and drive specific outcomes, from concept through delivery

  • Hire, train, mentor, and manage software engineers of all levels

  • Develop and implement systems and practices for delivering exceptional software products, platform capabilities, and product features

  • Build and retain a high performing team responsible for driving exciting enhancements to our software

  • Identify and promptly manage dependencies, blockers, and requirements

  • Maintain hands-on involvement with the teams on project efforts

  • Communicate constantly with all stakeholders

What you’ll need:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience delivering web-based software; experience at the architect level preferred

  • Significant experience managing development teams, both onsite and remote

  • Experience utilizing Agile methodologies to accelerate decisions/outcomes, minimize risk, and balance the short/long term goals

  • Ability to work well through ambiguity, lead through adversity, and build processes from the ground up

  • Strong business acumen and ability to foster relationships with stakeholders across the company

  • A passion for building a great working environment where the best people want to come work and stay

  • Top notch organizational and communication skills

  • Detailed oriented, but able to see both the strategic goals and the tactical milestones

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams

  • Strong knowledge and experience with agile methodologies

  • A drive to continuously learn and improve for both yourself and your teams

What would be nice:

  • Experience in a scaling SaaS company preferred
