10A is an acute care unit for the Emergency General Surgery Service. The unit is also designated as overflow for the Trauma and Vascular Services. The patient population includes primarily complicated abdominal surgeries for conditions such as necrotizing pancreatitis and enter cutaneous fistulas, colectomies; and complications of prior surgeries. Other diagnoses include necrotizing fasciitis, complicated appendectomies, bowel obstructions, diabetic ulcers, necrotic venous ulcerations, ischemic arterial ulcers, plus various traumatic injuries that may occur during MVC or falls.
The Certified Nursing Assistant is part of the multi-disciplinary team providing care to OHSU patients. The Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct or general nursing care to patients from admission through discharge under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse and within the scope of practice defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. They assist the patients, patient’s families and friends, nursing staff, and other OHSU personnel to assure the delivery of comprehensive quality care in a safe, confidential and comfortable environment.
High school diploma or GED
Current unencumbered Oregon State CNA license with CNA 2 (Acute Care) certification at time of hire
Current BLS certification - must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Basic math skills
Basic medical terminology
Ability to read, write and communicate appropriately and effectively
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Previous hospital experience or 1 year experience in SNF
WORKING CONDITIONS: This may include such items as work schedule, work location, travel and environmental exposures such as noise, human tissues/fluids or radiation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE: This describes the physical requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Example: Ability to carry and lift up to 35 pounds. .
Ability to stand for four continuous hours a day.
