Work Unit Description

Emergency Observation Unit. Work with a multidisciplinary team to provide care for patients admitted for 24-48 hour hospitalization.


Functions/Duties of Position

Combination of unit secretary, bedside care, Point of Care testing, ADLs, glucose testing, and patient care with multidisciplinary team.

To work as a member of an Interdisciplinary Team providing direct and indirect care for patients meeting observation admission criteria. Primary responsibility will be on 6B but may include assisting in the main Emergency Department Observation Unit based on volume and acuity. The CNA is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values and a commitment to service excellence. Variable shifts, alternating weekends.

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Oregon CNA license with CNA2 (Acute Care) Certification
  • BLS required at time of hire
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic Medical Terminology skills
  • Able to read, write, and communicate appropriately and effectively in English
  • Able to work in an environment of constant change with varying levels of support staff to assist in daily work
  • Able to work well within the team concept with ability to communicate with all members of the healthcare team
  • Able to manage time effectively to enable appropriate and effective patient care within the allotted shift time
  • Brings issues to the attention of those that can solve the issues and refrains from idle gossip regarding the work environment
  • Provides education to patients, families, and co-workers as needed and within the scope of professional nursing practice
  • Ability to care for patients across the development continuum
  • Required to be flexible in days worked during the scheduled week in order to accommodate co-worker needs for days off and enable the unit to continue to function effectively and safely
  • Work on computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation


  • Previous CNA experience
  • Preferred hospital experience
  • Must be able to work with multidisciplinary team and have strong communication skills
