WorkSource Oregon 20-069 EHS Specialist I in PORTLAND, Oregon

This position is a swing shift of 10am-7pm General Position Summary: Provides operational and technical support for Company Environmental, Health and Safety programs and policies. Observes day-to-day operations for risk and works with area supervisors to implement changes. Carries out basic inspections and tests of safety and workplace hazard monitoring equipment and systems; records and escalates anomalies, hazards and issues for resolution. Assists in Emergency Response Team (ERT) and employee training; maintains safety records, manuals and documentation in accordance with established procedures. Supports ongoing safety surveys and investigations of incidents, accidents, and emergencies. Works under minimal supervision. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Conducts daily Safety walk-thru inspections of manufacturing areas. Documenting and assigning corrective actions to the appropriate team personnel. Observes tasks done in manufacturing areas and works with area management to find safer work practices. Coaches and provides feedback to employees regarding safe work behaviour and safe work practices. Does Root Cause Corrective Action process to ensure that accident and/or incident investigations result in corrective action. Works with cross functional teams (Manufacturing, Management, EHS, Facilities, Engineering, etc.) on daily basis to drive the correction of safety hazards and employee concerns. May conduct tours as needed with visitors, contractors or new employees. Help develop, implement and manage administration of environmental, health and safety, emergency response and sustainability programs that mitigate risk to employees and the company, meet regulatory requirements, and achieve EHS goals. Work closely with management to establish and maintain these programs. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Ensures required EHS reports are submitted properly. Coordinate and oversee efforts to improve ergonomics. Drive environmental impacts and use reduction efforts where feasible. Act as company representative to outside agencies in EHS-related issues. Act as technical expert to internal and external customers. Oversee and ensure an effective safety committee and assist in developing action plans and goals for the committee. Assist with injured workers claims management. Works closely with HR and workers compensation insurers to manage claims. Evaluates workers compensation and risk management programs and recommends improvements. Establish and develop relationships with occupational health clinics, physicians and allied health care personnel to provide an effective return-to-work program.
