About the Business Group:

The General Manager of Silicon Process Pathfinding Group is an executive leadership role and the selected candidate will report directly to the GM of Technology Development.

Pathfinding often involves finding and building a connection between a good idea and a manufacturable product while meeting real world and business constraints. As with all engineering endeavors, no two Pathfinding projects are exactly the same. Each product generation presents new size, complexity, cost, power, performance, enabling, and other challenges. Starting with good ideas proven by thorough research (performed entirely within Intel or in collaboration with 3rd-parties) and ending when implementation options have been evaluated and selected, Pathfinding can involve a wide range of disciplines over an extended period of time and may depend on many factors. TD employs formal Pathfinding to develop new product manufacturing processes.

Silicon Process Pathfinding will be a heavily matrixed organization with a relatively small core team that will be supported by employees from both Logic Technology Development (LTD) and Components Research (CR). The product that Pathfinding delivers in conjunction with LTD and CR is the core definition of the new technology that LTD relies on for the development of each node. Included are definition to the modules innovations, tools, materials, innovation and evolution in transistor architecture, innovation in interconnect and more! New Si Process technologies must first and foremost enable Intel's silicon and meet product performance goals while being affordable. Si Process Pathfinding also works with Components Research to bring the best of innovation from research and set it up to be ready for inclusion in future process node development.

In this role, the selected candidate will lead the Si Process Pathfinding organization with a goal to deliver exquisitely across all the key technologies with safety, quality, performance, predictability, and cost.

Responsibilities:

Process Pathfinding will comprise of a small core team augmented with CR and LTD resources for each technology node. The employees will be mostly based in Hillsboro, Oregon. The Pathfinding GM is responsible for all areas of managing the organization including but not limited to:

  • Safety: TD has a complex development environment with safety the top priority.

  • People: Org health and leadership development.

  • Quality: Delivering process technology innovation and definition that meet our quality and reliability commitments to customers.

  • Process Pathfinding/definition: Delivery of technology definition, innovation in transistor architecture and interconnects in collaboration with our internal partner orgs that enables leadership products, a process which is manufacturable and cost effective and sets LTD organization up for success so that the technology node can be delivered on time at yield and performance. This work needs to provide a head-start to our development teams.

  • Disciplined use of the TD development methodology with robust risk assessment and contingency planning in collaboration with internal TD teams to deliver leading edge Silicon process technology.

  • Cost: Manage the organizations operational budget with a goal of innovating to enable the development of world-class quality, high performance, affordable wafer-cost and manufacturable process node.

  • Partnering with internal TD organization: Delivery of technology definition, in collaboration with our internal partner orgs that enables leadership products, is manufacturable and cost effective and can be delivered on time at yield and performance.

  • Partnering with Design: Need to partner with the design community at process definition to align process requirements to support leadership products.

  • Strong technical skills need advanced transistor skills and needs to understand interconnect very well; strong process/equipment module development skills in the ideal case the individual will have both.

Qualifications

15+ year of increasingly more complex and larger scope management as well as process development experience. Successful experience in process technology development at the leading edge is required. An advanced degree in a relevant discipline is also desired.
