Kelly Services Software Support Engineer in Hillsboro, Oregon

I have an exciting Direct Hire opportunity for a Software Technical Support Engineer (not IT) with a client located in Hillsboro, OR who is a global leader in the vacuum and abatement sector.

This position will primarily be able to be done remotely but Candidate needs to live in the Greater Portland, OR or Phoenix, AZ area

Job Description:

  • Provides level 3 technical software support for integrated vacuum systems.

  • Interacts with field service engineers to support ongoing equipment sustaining activities.

  • Assists with troubleshooting issues with new equipment installations.

  • Interacts with customer to relay design requests and product quality issues to the relevant product companies.

  • Acts as information resource to internal teams in relation to system software and controls.

  • Manages and maintains integrated system specific software configuration files

  • Writes files for new system designs.

  • Assists with conversions to existing system designs.

  • Manages tracking and documentation for reference of system configuration files.

  • Maintains system specific documentation for field testing of software and controls

  • Review and approve new documentation.

  • Write new documents for existing systems as needed.

  • Assist with system administration of internal group SharePoint resources.

  • Provide general software support for all our products in use across all target customer sites.

  • Write and present engineering change notices both internally and to the customer.

  • Own and drive quality issues to resolution (MQI's)


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or related field(s) or relevant experience

Knowledge areas/Skills (minimum level of knowledge to full-fill the role’s responsibilities)

  • 3-5+ years of experience

  • Working knowledge of computer networking fundamentals.

  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle

  • Knowledge and experience with data driven process improvement methods (8D, DMAIC, ect.)

  • Ability to correctly diagnose complex multi-level software bugs

  • Ability to provide step-by-step technical help, both written and verbal

  • Fully proficient with Microsoft Office suite

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong initiative, sense of urgency, ownership, and sound judgement.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with critical attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Must be a Team player, accountable, responsible, dependable and result oriented.

  • Demonstrates an organized approach, with close attention to detail.

  • Familiar with centralized and distributed source code repository tools.

  • Embedded software development experience is a plus

  • Some exposure to software design patterns. Experience working in a manufacturing and/or electronics environment.

  • Software testing (Unit/Integration/System).
