Umpqua Bank Software Engineering Manager in Hillsboro, Oregon

Leads a diverse team of software engineers responsible for delivering web experiences, core system integrations and API’s to associates and customers. Provides technical leadership and direction on engineering best practices. Ensures proficiency and continuity of staff through training, development opportunities, and performance reviews. Partners with business and technology stakeholders to align on priorities and deploy resources to solve business needs. Leads continuous process improvement activities for the development team. Strong bond with site reliability engineering managers to influence, guide and collaborate throughout the release lifecycle.

Functions:

  • Responsible for coaching and developing a team of software engineers.

  • Evangelize and promote automation over manual methods. Encourage transparency and visibility.

  • Drive engineering best practices across all current and new software development projects.

  • Responsible for resource management, including frequent performance feedback and annual performance review.

  • Coordinate with business and technology stakeholders to help identify and prioritize needs and to ensure resource needs are met.

  • Facilitate communication within the team and with business and technology stakeholders.

  • Develop high-performing development team through recruitment, retention and training opportunities

  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement. Assist with removing roadblocks and empowering the team to deliver best work.

  • Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and applies to designated job responsibilities – knowledge may be gained through coursework and on-the-job training. Keeps up to date on regulation changes.

  • Follows all Bank policies and procedures, compliance regulations, and completes all required annual or job-specific training.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Bank's written policies and procedures regarding Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and other regulations as applicable to this job description.

  • May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert.

  • Actively learns, demonstrates, and fosters the Umpqua corporate culture in all actions and words.

  • Takes personal initiative and is a positive example for others to emulate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 10-12 employees

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experienced required.

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in software development.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in leadership/management role with responsibility of hiring and performance management.

  • Experience in all facets of the SDLC for software development projects.

  • Experience with cloud, hybrid cloud development and release practices (Azure, AWS)

  • Ability to collaborate with business and technology stakeholders across the organization to align on priorities.

  • Experience with Microsoft technology stack; web and mobile development; web services design and implementation; (C#, .Net Core, Angular, Ember).

  • Demonstrated experience with building and developing high-performance teams.

  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).

  • Experience leading software developers through design and development of custom applications.

  • Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands.

  • Occasional travel.
