Storage I/O is a longstanding bottleneck for compute systems, and our group is focused on shattering it. As a software engineering intern, you will be part of a small R&D software and firmware team, that pathfinds next-gen technologies to improve our Solid-State Drives and associated software stack on IA systems. You will work with a lead engineer to research host software plus SSD device feature-changes to together provide cost reductions at a platform level. Your pathfinding responsibilities will include design, development, debug, experimentation-with, and analysis of core improvements to the underlying technologies.
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your school work/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences. This is an entry level position and will be compensated accordingly.
The candidate must be pursuing a Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
12+ months of experience in the following areas:
Software engineering and C/C++ Computer architecture
Operating systems fundamentals
Storage domain, and application of NVM technologies (esp. SSDs and/or Disk-Caches)
6+ months of experience in the following areas:
High-performance multi-tasking low-level system software development, in an embedded or Linux-based driver environment
Object Databases, LSM trees, and RocksDB
Linbit DRBD or other distributed storage volumes
S3 cloud storage and/or system administration skills of Linux based system providing storage volumes to applications in datacenter or cloud
Architect, design, develop, debug, experiment-with and analyze technologies at the hardware/software boundary (e.g., to be able to prototype and evaluate key technologies in firmware and/or OS driver domains)
