Department Summary
The Geography Department is an instructional department within the College of Arts and Sciences that supports significant research activities in various types of geographic study. The Department of Geography has 27 Faculty, 125+ undergraduate majors, and 40+ graduate students.
Research and graduate education in the Department of Geography focuses on the following subfields: (a) Geographic information science: cartography, GIS, data analysis and visualization, spatial analysis and modeling; (b) Human geography: political-ethnic, cultural, human-environment relations, and behavioral geography; (c) Physical geography: Quaternary studies, biogeography, climatology and climatic change, geomorphology; (d) Environmental studies: forest and ecosystem issues, river and watershed issues, biodiversity and global environmental change, policy and law, environmental applications of GIS; and (e) Geographic education
Position Summary
The Department of Geography is seeking applicants for its open research pool. Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. In limited circumstances, there is the possibility of renewal beyond three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance.
Research Assistants or Associates will work under the supervision of the Department Head or Principal Investigator. Research Assistant/Associates will be expected to work independently on projects.

Minimum Requirements
Research Assistant, BA/BS required by start of position
Research Associate, PhD is required by start of position
Professional Competencies
Successful candidates for Research positions will have research background in Geography or a related field and will have professional experience, demonstrated ability or potential for quality research.
Preferred Qualifications
Research Assistant, MA/MS preferred
