ShelterCare'sPermanent Supported Housing programofEugene, ORis seeking to hire afull-time Peer Support Specialistto provideservices to adults with severe mental illness who are living independently in the community. The Permanent Supported Housing program serves our clients through low or no-barrier housing for individuals who have been chronically homeless and living with a mental illness. The program is centered on obtaining housing for our clients and helping them retain that housing. Clients are paired with multiple staff to help them connect with community resources and teach daily living skills.

The Peer Support Specialist earns a competitive wage of$14.28/hr ($22,276.8 annually). The wage will increase to$15.28/hrafter registering on the Traditional Health Care Registry. This is a non-exempt, hourly position. This position is30 hoursa week.

  • Up to 144 hours during the first 12 months for employees working 40 hours a week. Prorated for employees working less than 40 hours a week.


As a Peer Support Specialist, you willfacilitate support groups, provide individual support aimed at enhancing mental health recover and stability, and assist with crisis intervention. You will provide participants with peer counseling and structured recreation.You will alsoprovide one-on-one support to consumers from start to finish during the process to locate safe, secure, and affordable housing for participants.

Peer Support Specialists will assist participants in creating action steps towards their personal goals and identify what skills, resources and supports are needed to ensure stable housing and personal goal achievement. You'll love being able tomake a differencein the lives of those you serve!



  • Experience as a mental health consumer, or with a family member who has received mental health services, and the ability to use these experiences to support others in recovery

  • Mustbe Certified Peer Support Specialist and Registered with Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon

  • Ability to be certified as a Peer Support Specialist

  • Ability to drive agency vehicles

  • Ability to successfully pass a DHS background check


  • Experience with a mental health advocacy group or as a peer counselor

  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness


The schedule for this full-time position is within the Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pmframework. This position is a30-houra week position.
