ShelterCare needs an experienced Cook who is committed to preparing healthy meals as well as helping adults who are struggling with severe and persistent mental illness. Working as part of a collaborative team in a 16-bed facility, the Cook prepares and serves three meals and one snack each day while on duty. He or she will have a variety of responsibilities, including: developing menus and shopping for food; cleaning the kitchen and maintaining specified sanitation standards; managing food stock and food storage areas; maintaining equipment and securely managing the inventory of dishes, utensils, and knives. The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, and a respectful communicator who is comfortable working in a home-like setting.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalency. Applicants must have paid experience cooking for groups of 15 or more persons, the ability to follow written directions, and a working understanding of nutritional needs. Experience cooking for individuals with special dietary needs, including diabetes, is strongly preferred. Must possess a current food handler's card and a valid driver's license, be approved to drive agency vehicles, and pass a DHS background check.
Full-time (40 hours per week), Wed-9am-1pm, Thursday and Friday 7:30am-6pm, Saturday and Sunday- 8am-4:30pm. $11.71/hr. (DOE).
