The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Web Services team develops and supports web-based applications, primarily serving the approximately forty-five academic departments and programs in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences divisions, and the CAS Dean’s Office. The team also does work for units outside CAS on contract.
CAS is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, providing academic programs that support the mission of the entire institution and shape its identity as a comprehensive research university. Each department or program offers one or more undergraduate and/or graduate degrees. The College has about 700 tenure-related and other faculty, about 400 Graduate Teaching Fellows, and about 200 administrative staff. Of the 20,000+ students at the University of Oregon, approximately 12,000 are in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Infrastructure Developer is responsible for designing and implementing infrastructure for delivering, running, maintaining and testing software services. This involves building deployment and testing pipelines, automated provisioning of cloud and local infrastructure, and infrastructure support services such as monitoring and logging across a variety of application platforms.
This position is a key part of a continuously improving Agile software development team and is engaged in all Agile ceremonies including daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning and retrospectives among others. Shared code ownership is achieved through documentation, teaching and coaching as technologies and processes are introduced and refined.
The College of Arts and Sciences values cooperation with and contribution to quality throughout the broader campus community. Therefore the Infrastructure Developer will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders from across the university to provide innovative solutions supporting research, instruction and administration.
In particular, the Infrastructure Developer will at times spend up to 30% of his/her effort collaborating with developers in other UO units, especially Central IS Applications and Middleware, to contribute to the development of shared application infrastructure solutions.
The Infrastructure Developer must apply exceptional application systems analysis, programming and database skills to analyze the team’s system and application needs, evaluating, selecting and implementing optimal technology solutions.
The Infrastructure Developer will work independently as well as in a team. The person hired in this position will apply broad knowledge and exceptional application systems analysis, programming and database skills to standard and non-standard technical problems, analyze the team’s system and application needs and evaluate, recommend and implement optimal technology solutions.
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor's degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.
• Demonstrates a strong understanding of all important concepts involved in infrastructure development (CI/CD, software testing, application management, ALM, operations monitoring and analytics, cloud and hybrid deployments etc.)
• Hands-on professional experience with:
o Automation, configuration management and provisioning tools such as Docker, Puppet, Chef, Ansible Packer, CloudFormation, Terraform or equivalent technologies
o Continuous Integration/Deployment tools such as Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis CI TeamCity, VSTS CI/CD, Bamboo etc.
o Application programming and scripting languages, tools and practices such as PowerShell, Bash, PHP, Python, Perl, Ruby C#, Java or equivalent technologies.
o SCM platforms such as GitHub, Bitbucket, VSTS etc.
o Administering application servers, web servers, and databases such as Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, Microsoft IIS, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.
• Ability to explain and teach complex infrastructure development concepts and solutions to development and management staff
• Writing and maintaining exceptional technical documentation
• Ability to excel in an Agile team development environment
• Hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS platforms AWS, Azure, GCE, Rackspace, OpenStack, CloudStack, CloudFoundry, etc.
• Professional software development experience including web development, object-oriented programming and application design.
• Experience on Agile development teams including Scrum and Scrum ceremonies.
• Experience testing software at all levels (unit, integration, end-to-end etc.) and test automation platforms
• Experience implementing RESTful API concepts and tools such as HTTP methods and statuses, hypermedia-driven APIs, Swagger etc.
• Experience with Atlassian development and collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, HipChat, Bamboo) including using, administering, automation scripts, APIs
