Summary

Deschutes County is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Support Technician for the Community Development Department (CDD). This position will help support the needs of the department by performing a variety of standardized duties associated with general office assistance. Duties include heavy customer contacts in person, by phone and by email; copy support for brochures, handouts and other documents as needed; providing administrative assistant to the CDD division; providing coverage to reception desk as needed; processing incoming and outgoing mail; monitoring and ordering office supplies; coordinating Property & Facilities work orders; scheduling and registering employees for conferences or events; preparing permit packets for issuance, including checking permits for accurate fees and notifying customers when permits are ready to issue; preparing correspondence and other documents as needed; filing construction plans and maintaining the file room in an orderly fashion; and assisting the Assessor's office with questions about scanned floor plans, checking for accuracy and retrieving plans from archives.

Compensation

$3,419.83 to $4,582.92 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of administrative support experience; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of file management, accounting/bookkeeping, record keeping, case management, and records management.

  • Techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone.

  • Business and personal computers, and specialized software applications.

Skill in:

  • Performing a variety of clerical functions to support CDD operations.

  • Entering data and numerical information into a computer system with speed and accuracy, and maintaining electronic records, files, and databases.

  • Interpreting a variety of technical instructions and program requirements.

  • Reviewing documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements.

  • Understanding and explaining rules, regulations, codes, laws, and ordinances.

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

Physical Requirements:Must have the ability to work in an office that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment. The position is frequently required to sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, grasp, talk, hear, see, and may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
