Nike Principal Data Engineer in Beaverton, Oregon

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering. Experience: five years of overall progressive experience in leading an engineering team. Skills/requirements: 5 years of experience in (1) AWS distributed / cloud-based data services, including RDS, DynamoDB, Data Pipeline, and EMR; (2) writing and tuning complex highly optimized SQL queries across large data sets; (3) ETL/ data movement tools to build robust and scalable data integration pipelines using SQL, EMR, Python, Spark, Glue, Informatica, and DMS; (4) programming in Python, Java, and C/ C++; (5) NoSQL data stores, including DynamoDB or Cassandra, and SQL data stores, including Aurora; (6) microservice architecture; (7) modern build strategies, continuous integration, unit testing, static analysis, and automated integration tests; and (8) Agile principles and the Scrum development process.

Will lead in the data engineering space by researching and developing technical designs and turning them into working solutions that advanced engineering teams can adopt and build upon to support the needs of data governance and data management groups in Beaverton, OR. Will collaborate with Data Architects, Technical Leads, Business Stakeholders, and other agile team members while ensuring alignment with strategic business roadmaps that meet key objectives of the business and technical leadership. Will lead the product development data group’s cloud development effort focusing on scalability, quality and performance. Will serve as the organization's expert on Enterprise Data Governance platform technologies and architecture through the design of efficient and scalable processes to acquire, manipulate, and analyze data. Will contribute to the Enterprise Data Governance codebase directly by taking on development tasks. Will ensure adherence to enterprise best practices for engineering and data design and implementation and infuse the same standards to the product development data engineering teams. Will understand enabler work and collaborate with system and solution architecture and engineering to assist with decision-making and sequencing of critical technological infrastructures to support new business functionality. Will communicate consistently and clearly to all team members to ensure technical designs are understood, questions are answered, issues are raised, and solutions are delivered effectively and efficiently. Will foster an engineering culture including code reviews, learning, and best practices. Will manage a team of data engineers located both on and offshore, including employee performance reviews and regular one-on-one sessions. Will invest time in individual team member development towards goals and interests while developing the overall versatility of the team through T-shaping of all team members. Will participate in an Agile / Scrum methodology to deliver high quality solutions. Will foster an Agile mindset for the team, including continuous improvement and the understanding that overall accountability for the entire product belongs to the team as a whole.
