Description

As the Director of Release Management you will manage both the function and play a key role on the team that enables Digital Product and Engineering teams to bring world-class products and applications to market. You will have responsibility for defining delivery strategies in support of Product roadmaps as well as the framework and governance required to deliver successful releases from the planning phase to deployment in partnership with our global teams. In this role you are expected to be able to manage and guide your team in delivering high impact, high risk change and work with teams to ensure proper air traffic control in order to protect the consumer experience. As the Director of Release Management you will partner with other leaders and teams across Nike including Engineering, Quality, Program, Operations, Support and Product to ensure technology and experiences are not only released but delivered with as little negative impact as possible. Continuous improvement is critical and the team will be responsible for continually improving the way we deliver both in process and technology.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional team leadership skills and experience managing effective teams and individual talent

  • Proven track record of working with leaders to develop vision, strategy and execution plans for delivery that are aligned with business outcomes.

  • Proven ability to define and drive an effective release framework including release cadences, necessary planning end to end, and required communications on a global, consumer facing scale

  • Deep understanding of implementation and release management processes; understanding of environment management, build and delivery strategies with experience first hand and/or managing teams that manage releases through the testing cycle in pre-production.

  • Ability to establish strong partnerships with product, quality, program and engineering organizations to prioritize work, drive release scheduling decisions, manage risk to the organization and consumers, and partner on release related incident and problem resolution

  • Solid understanding of production support and how to work with support teams in the area of incident management, problem management and ensure key processes, data, and resources are considered in release related planning and decisions

  • Partner with release engineering team to define tooling needs to support global delivery

  • Strong influencing skills and ability to interact with senior management and all teams involved in delivering product within the release process framework

  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation communication of complex topics to a diverse audience including senior leaders, management, technical peers, and business stakeholders

  • Ability to define critical analytics (KPI's) to measure success, drive continuous improvement, and make key, data driven decisions.

  • Stays current with industry trends around modern approaches to delivery and is able to apply to the current release framework

  • Experience with organizational effectiveness/transition management concepts

  • Ability to understand organizational / business roadmaps to inform annual operating plans and budget required to support the roadmap

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Business, Engineering or a related field; 2 additional years of professional experience in lieu of a degree

  • 10+ years professional experience with at least 4 years in delivery, implementation, release management, and/or business process improvement. 3 years program / project management experience

  • Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery, Lean, Agile software development methodologies. Knowledge of DevOps concepts.
