THE POSITION

Douglas County Senior Services

Benefited full time position / 40 hours per week, includes excellent full-family benefit package, OPSRP/PERS retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings.

Provides coordination and support to the food service workers and dining site volunteers stationed at all of the seven senior dining sites (Glendale, Glide, Reedsport, Riddle, Yoncalla, Sutherlin or Winston) throughout the county to ensure that the congregate meals are served and the home-delivered meals (HDM) are delivered to the doors of those who are homebound.

This position is responsible for the meal program operations and provides staff coverage when needed at the sites. Performs site safety inspections, provides food safety training to food service workers and volunteers, provides motivation, problem solving techniques and good customer services skills and training. This position works with the contracted meal vender in problem solving and meal orders. This position reports directly to the Department Director.

Coordinates with food service workers and HDM drivers with route sheets from Meal Service and the directions to homes of clients. Provide staff with information for following up with clients who are not at home when the HDM driver arrives. Provides an on-going inventory of frozen meals. Works with food service worker to total meals served and ordered.

Manages senior dining sites. Coordinates with food service workers and volunteers in warming, dishing and serving hot meals at the congregate sites and in cooperation with the food service workers and volunteers site cleanup following the meal.

Performs site inspections to ensure safety procedures are being followed. Provides training for food service workers and volunteers using the quality inspection guides, steam tables procedures and other approved training materials to assist food service workers and volunteers in meeting the mandatory requirements.

Builds and encourages positive atmospheres within the dining sites. Recruits, directs the work of, train and assists employees and volunteers staff. Interviews prospective volunteers, facilitate volunteer application process, driving records, criminal history and abuse check and provides volunteer training once the volunteer has been approved.

Regular and consistent attendance is required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education, experience and training: Two years experience in recreation or social service program OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training. At the time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver's license.

Basic knowledge of customer-service and relationship-building “best practices” is essential. Must possess considerable knowledge of sanitary food handling practices; must obtain Food Handler’s Certificate within one month of being hired and every three years thereafter. Must have basic knowledge of and skill in making change, counting money and making bank deposits.

Preferred experience in food service industry.

Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass acriminal history backgroundcheckas part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.

Physical Examination / Drug Screen: Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
